Our Philosophy
Our philosophy is fairly simple. We believe that wine is a common treasure to be enjoyed by all. And its enjoyment needn’t be beyond affordability.
Everyone is looking for value today and that’s exactly what Down East Wine Imports offers. Although we carry wines in a variety of price ranges, we are, in many instances, less concerned with a wine’s pedigree or reputation, and more interested in its flavor or style. What does it taste like? What’s the story behind it? What food will it complement? We strive to spotlight many hard to find but interesting grape varietals from around the world—many at prices that make them affordable as “everyday” wines.
We taste all wines before we buy and refuse many. You’ll find few commercial brands here, but instead wine that has “terroir”—a sense of place and tastes of the soil and region of its birth. Small, artisan wines where sometimes “faults” (deviations from the norm) are actually attributes making the wine unique and more enjoyable.
Our Wine Buyer
Eric Olson has been in the wine business 35 years. He’s traveled extensively to many of the great wine regions of the world, tasting, learning, and getting to know small producers who grow their own grapes and have been making wine for generations. Eric and many of his friends in the industry will be on hand for wine tastings throughout the year.
